The SAZF Cape Council sends its condolences to the families of those killed in Peshawar suicide attack

The SAZF CAPE Council sends our condolences and sympathies to the families of those killed today in the two suicide bombings at Christ Church and St John’s Catholic Church in Lahore.

The Islamic extremist group Jamatul Ahrar, a branch of the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility. Although only comprising 2% of the Pakistani population, the Christians have suffered continued harassment and discrimination. They are shut out of certain jobs and out of government service. They are forced to live in confined and separate communities.

This attack follows the attack on St Marks Church in Peshawar in 2013 when 80 Christians were killed. We call on the South African government to condemn the targeting of Christians in Moslem societies and demand that minorities be offered protection by the security forces of these states.
